Joint Rejuvenation - Prolozone / PRP

Not FDA Approved

What is it?

Prolozone is a technique that marries concepts from neural therapy, Prolotherapy, and ozone therapy. It involves injecting various combinations of procaine, anti-inflammatory medications/homeopathics, vitamins, minerals, proliferatives, and a mixture of ozone gas into degenerated or injured joints, and in areas of pain. The result of this combination is nothing short of remarkable in that damaged tissues may be regenerated, and otherwise untreatable pain can find relief.

PRP (Platelet-rich plasma) is obtained from the patient who is being treated. Blood is withdrawn from a vein in the patient's arm and the blood is placed in a centrifuge, a machine that spins at a high speed to separate the different types of blood cells. The physician extracts the platelet-rich portion of the blood and injects this into the area of injury. There is not just platelets in the concentrated layer of the "spun" blood, but also other important growth factors, plasma, and red blood cells. By injecting PRP into areas of an injury, the hope is to stimulate and optimize your body's ability to heal the chronic conditions.

Considered alternative therapy and is not covered by insurance.

What can a patient expect?

Prolozone - most patients notice an almost immediate 50-80% decrease in pain. This is in part due to the effect of procaine; however, studies show that ozone has a significant ability to directly relieve pain. Can have regenerative properties without breaking down cartilage, like steroids.

PRP - this therapy is a form of regenerative medicine that can harness the body's
ability to heal itself and amplify the natural growth factors your body uses to heal tissue.
The effect of treatment is most noticeable after at least six months.
